Charles Arthur Josiah (JIM) Partridge 1927 - 2001

Known to everyone as Jim. My Uncle Jim was born in Billesdon, Leicestershire on 12th April 1927, son of Charles William and Gladys (nee Ford), brother to Hilda and Norman.

His first employment was a gardener to Captain George ar Bushby. When he was called up for the Second World War he joined the Leicester regiment and was stationed in India. While there he gained promotion to Sergeant in the Military Police.

He married Mary (nee Bowditch) on Boxing Day 1949.

After demob he became a gamekeeper working for the Earl of Lanesbrough. Then on to Barkby in Leicestershire working for Sir Victor Poachin, this is where the boys, Richard, Steven and Malcolm were born.

A bigger estate tempted them to move to Wyville near Grantham, Lincs where Jim worked for Sir Dennis Le marchant earning a reputation for large shooting bags and setting some new records for the estate. A move to another local estate at Harlaxton Manor near Grantham came where Jim worked for the jesuits for approximately three years.

Still aiming to better his shooting bag records he was tempted to return to Wyville. Then an opportunity to be Head gamekeeper at Enville near Stourbridge, Worcestershire came along, by this time the boys had all left home; Steven and Malcolm following in their father's footsteps and becoming gamekeepers, and Richard a Retail Manager.

Jim and Mary moved to Pipewell near Kettering, where Jim worked for Sir Geoffrey Palmer for 18 years. On his retirement they moved to a house on Sir Geoffrey's estate at Tur Langton where Jim followed his hobbies of gardening (hanging baskets everywhere.. one poor apple tree lost its branch due to the weight of the baskets), following the hunt and filming wildlife. Jim and Mary then moved to Rothwell.
